Treatment for Excessive Sweating
Excessive sweating or Hyperhidrosis effects both men and women and can cause discomfort and embarrassment for the sufferer.
What causes excessive sweating?
Sweating helps the body to lose heat but when excessive sweating occurs more sweat is produced than is required to control body temperature.
Hyperhidrosis is caused by an over-activity of the sweat glands in the hands, feet and armpits. It affects from a third to around a half of the population and is thought to be mainly genetic.
How does the treatment work?
When Botulinum Toxin Type A is injected into the area it temporarily blocks the action of the nerves that supply these glands, preventing them from producing sweat.
A dye is used to show up areas where the sweating is greatest and, using a fine needle, Botulinum Toxin is injected within the affected area.
The treatment takes around 30 minutes.
You should notice a different within 2 weeks of treatment. You can return for a free follow up treatment after a month to review its success and possibly fill in a few gaps. Following this, the treatment should last around 6 – 12 months.
